Help Mr.Cuddles

Help Mr. Cuddles find confidence.

Hey there! Chloe the cat here and welcome to Mewowville.

Middle school can be so hard, am I right? That’s why we need your help!

As a parent, I bet you have helped your kid with like a zillion things! Maths and sciency stuff and the, “don’t forget to use your manners,” or, “did you feed your goldfish today?” stuff. All the things kids need help with ‘stuff’.

So you’re pretty good at lots of teachery things, right?

Well, we need your help in Mewowville. That’s where I’m from and that’s where Mr. Cuddles is from.

He has a problem.

He wants to find the confidence to ask THE MOST POPULAR GIRL IN SCHOOL to be his meowentine! But he’s scared. Like really scared. Like what if she says ‘no’? Or what if she says, ‘yes’?

Where should Mr. Cuddles start?

But he’s scared. In his mind, just asking her is not an option. How can he overcome this?

That’s a great start! By practicing what he wants to say, he can feel more sure of what he wants and prepare for the moment he actually asks her. Good job!

That’s not very encouraging! If he practices what he wants to say now, over time and for his future self, he will become more confident and less self-conscience.

What can Mr. Cuddles do to build confidence?

Let’s help him figure it out. Confidence, self-esteem, and courage can really help you believe in yourself. By practicing things like self-positivity in the mirror, you can reinforce that belief.

Self-esteem

How you see and value yourself.

I deserve happiness

I matter and I am good enough. I matter and I am good enough. I matter and I am good enough.

Confidence

To believe in your own abilities and qualities.

I am great!

I know I can do this because I have already done _____________, and that is not as scary anymore.

Courage

To do something even if you are scared.

It's ok to be scared.

But I know I can overcome this because I am brave.
Write down your own version of what Mr. Cuddles could say to himself to feel more confident in himself (or use one of our examples if you feel stuck).
(Option A.) I can do this. I can do this. I am an awesome cat and I know they will like me.
(Option B.) Breathe. Just remember to breathe. Remember when you got stung by that bee and you had to go back to face the tree again because your favorite toy was out there? And you took slow steps to get there but you still did it? You can do that again. You can do it because you are brave.

(Option C.) I am brave. I am awesome. I have a good life and good skills. I am the fastest at laser tag and I can run up the walls better than my sister. I know I can do this. I believe in myself.

Can you make some confidence cards of your own?
